Timer to shutdown your PC

Do you know that you can make your PC shutdown at a time you wish to?
Here is the trick!!

How To Make A Shutdown Timer!

METHOD-1

01. Right click on your desktop and choose "New->shortcut".
02. In the box that says "Type the location of the shortcut",
type in "shutdown -s -t 3600" without the quotation marks but include the spaces, and click next.

Note: 3600 are the amount of seconds before your computer shuts down.
So, 3600 secs = 60 mins = 1 hour

03. Make up a name for the shortcut and you're done.

You can change the icon by right clicking=>properities=>change icon=>browse.

To abort the shutdown:

To make an abort key to stop the shutdown timer, just create another shortcut and make
the "location of the shortcut" to "shutdown -a" without the quotes and save it with another name you wish.

----------------------------------
METHOD 2

Here is another trick to shutdown at a specific time, for example you wish to shutdown at 11:35am. Type this in start->Run

"at 11:35 shutdown -s" without quotes

To Abort, type this in Start->Run

"shutdown -a" without quotes

Note: All time are in 24hr, for eg., if you would like to shutdown at 8:30 PM, you should type

"at 20:30 shutdown -s" without quotes

------------------------------------------------
METHOD 3

You can use a batch file for that as well. It makes it easier to use.
Just run the file and enter the time at which you want your pc to shutdown.

To create the batch file, open Notepad,

Type this Code:

@echo off
title Scheduled Shutdown Batch Example by chacha1234
color A
echo Enter Time To Shutdown (example 19:30)
set /p stime=
cls
at %stime% ""shutdown -s -t 00"" >nul
echo Your PC Will Auto Shutdown At %stime%
echo Press Any Key To Exit
pause >nul
exit

Save the above file as "shutdown.bat" in your desktop.

Also you can add -c "desired message" at the end of the shutdown command
for example,
shutdown -s -t 60 -c "Shutdown PC"

Using this command you can also schedule your PC to restart.
for example,
shutdown -r -t 60 -c "Restarting PC"

To execute, simply double-click on the "Shutdown.bat" file in your desktop.

Cool, huh?

Test Your Antivirus Software

Have you ever wondered if your anti-virus software is really working? Would you like to see what happens when it detects a virus? Here's a safe way to test your computer's virus protection that doesn't require you to have a real virus.

First, open Notepad. Then copy and paste into it, the text below. (It should all be on one line.)

X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*

Then select File, Save, select All Files for the file type, then save the file as eicar.com.

Your anti-virus software may prevent you from saving the file as eicar.com, which is a sign that it is working effectively. If it doesn't raise an alert, try scanning the folder where you saved eicar.com. To see what happens if you try to run a file containing a virus, double-click eicar.com to open it.

Explanation:

The file eicar.com you have created is completely safe. It is not a virus. It is a standard test file developed by the European Institute for Computer Anti-virus Research (EICAR). All anti-virus products are programmed to detect this file as if it was a real virus. Therefore you can safely use it to test whether your anti-virus software works, without fear of infecting your computer.

Conclusion:

If your anti-virus product should fail to prevent you from running the file, it will simply display the text "EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE" in a DOS box. No harm will have been done, but you should probably consider using a better anti-virus product, because if it had been a real virus, your computer would by now be infected!

PS. My antivirus - Zone Alarm Suite immediately quarantined the file as soon as I saved it.

Run multiple Yahoo Messengers

You can log into multiple yahoo accounts on yahoo messenger using this simple Registry edit. Open the Registry editor (Start->Run, type regedit and hit Enter).

Before we proceed any further, its always better to backup the registry before you make any changes to it.
To backup, goto File -> export -> give a file name and make sure the "Export range" is set to "All" and click save.

Now, navigate to the following path:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Yahoo\Pager\Test

On the right pane, right click and select New-> DWORD Value. Name it as "Plural" (without the quotes). Now double click on the newly created DWORD to open up the 'Edit DWORD Value' window. Give it a hexadecimal value of 1 and press OK.

That's it. You're done. Exit the Registry Editor. You can now log into Yahoo! Messenger with multiple accounts simultaneously :)

And should you get the need to disable this, simply double click on the registry backup which you saved earlier.

Rahman's dream comes true

The music wizard A.R. Rahman has made his 42nd birthday a memorable one. He has decided to offer a rare scheme to the music world. He has decided to launch a music conservatory that promises to offer a holistic training programme in music and music technology.

Rahman has been dreaming to establish such an institute for quite some time. The genius, who turned 42 on Sunday, was quite excited that this dream was taking shape. “All of us, musicians, have felt the need for such training. Most of us had to take the round-about way. This initiative will help aspirants move ahead faster,” he told in an interview on the occasion.

The KM Music Conservatory and Audio Media Education will start functioning at a place next to Rahman’s studio in Kodambakkam. He has plans to move it to a campus in the outskirts of the city. The programme will start by May, 2008, informs AR Rahman.

The courses include Western Vocal and Instrumental Performance, Indian Classical Vocal, Western and Indian Music Theory, Music Appreciation, Ear Training, Piano, Audio Engineering, an Apple certified course in Logic Pro, and a Digidesign certified course in Pro Tools. These courses will definitely help the younger ones to develop their skills.

“The KM Music Conservatory is an attempt to recreate a world-class orchestra for the enjoyment of India's people. Currently Indian composers must go abroad to find orchestras to record. The vision of KM Music Conservatory is to eliminate this obstacle and provide an exemplary orchestra here in India", said Rahman in a press released issued on his birthday.

The faculty will include professors from India and abroad, and other musicians who will train students in Indian and Western Classical music.

The school will soon audition students who play flute, oboe, clarinet, French horn, trumpet, trombone, violin, viola, cello, double bass and percussion. Students also have the opportunity to audition for the professional KM Music Symphony Orchestra on completion of the programme.

The Boss is gonna be back!!!

Digging for gold appears to have become superstar Rajinikanth’s favourite pastime. As if the Rs 80-crore blockbuster Sivaji, The Boss was not enough, filmdom’s money spinning hero has now signed up for India’s costliest movie.

Pegged at Rs 100 crore, director Shankar’s Robot, a science fiction film, will see Rajni replace King of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan as hero. London-based Ayngaran International, in which Kishore Lulla-owned Eros International picked up a controlling stake last July, is to produce the film.

Robot will be released in five languages for a global audience. This dream project of Shankar was also to be produced by SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment. In fact, last year, the film had been planned featuring filmdom’s other cash king Shah Rukh Khan.

However, owing to differences between Shankar and SRK on the creative front, as acknowledged by the latter in recent statements, the film was dropped about two months ago. Observers say, given Shankar’s penchant for large canvas presentations the cost of production of Robot could even cross the Rs 100-crore mark, setting a new Indian record.

“Ayngaran and Eros Multimedia will be jointly producing Robot featuring Rajinikanth and directed by Shankar.

Shankar had originally wanted to do Robot with Kamal Hassan over five years ago for Media Dreams, the now defunct film arm of Chennai-based Pentamedia Graphics. Somewhere down the line, even Hritik Roshan’s name came up for serious consideration. But Rajini appears to have swung it yet again.

Waiting for The Boss to come back with a bang!!

dts? dolby? Listen this!!

When the movie 'Speed' was released I was really amazed by the dts/dolby technology where the audio track was recorded in 6 separate tracks and reproduced in 6 different channels in theaters. I still remember turning back to the telephone ring, cursing the man/woman who had brought his/her cell phone to the theater, which actually was the effect of dts technology.

Now, lets talk about the actual intention of this blog. I got this accidentally while searching for mp3s. All you need is a pair of good earphones or headphones.

Seems this has been recorded using a technology called Binaural Sound Technique.

Quote Wikipedia:

Binaural recording is a method of recording audio which uses a special microphone arrangement. Dummy head recording refers to a specific method of capturing the audio, generally using a bust.

The term "binaural" has often been confused as a synonym for the word "stereo", and this is partially due to a large amount of misuse in the mid-1950s by the recording industry, as a marketing buzzword. Conventional stereo recordings do not factor in natural crossfeed or sonic shaping of the head and ear, since these things happen naturally as a person listens, generating their own ITDs (interaural time differences) and ILDs (interaural level differences). Unquote.

The only con is that you can experience the full effect of this in ear/head phone alone. Still you'll be amazed by this kinda recording.

Try these samples.
